One basic adjective to describe Elie Saab’s unique fusion of western and eastern culture is absolute perfection.
He made us understand that sometimes going to school isn’t really the ruler for measuring success,in 1981 he moved to Paris to study fashion but ended up returning and opening his workshop in 1982.
Elie Saab was the first non Italian designer to become a member of of Italian Camera Nazionale Della Moda, and then in 1997 he showed his first collection outside Lebanon in Rome. In 1998 he started ready-to-wear in Milan,where he used noble materials such as taffeta,organza,noble and satin paired with more fluid and light fabrics.
In 1999,Queen Rania of Jordan wore Elie Saab for her enthronement. One of his dresses somewhat less demure,thickly embroidered with emeralds and diamonds,was reportedly sold for $2.4 million.
He became an overnight success after he became the first Lebanese designer to dress an Oscar winner,
Halle Berry,the dress was voted the 8th greatest red carpet gown of all time. The Cosmopolitan magazine cited Halle Berry’s dress as one if Oscars best dresses of all time,that same year she became the first Black woman to win Oscar’s award for best actress of the year.
After that night, it was an overnight success for Saab,he was bombarded with interviews and appeared on at least 5 TV networks. In 2010,Saab dressed 102 international celebrities for key global events.
His creations can be found all over the world with boutiques located all over the world, from Beirut to Dubai to London,Geneva,Hong Kong,New York,Moscow, Doha,Paris, and Mexico.
